With about two and a half weeks left in the year, I wanted to share my favorite songs I heard in 2024—but with a twist: I’ve grouped them by the seasons I discovered them. Music can feel so tied to time, and breaking it down this way has been eye-opening. Hope you enjoy the picks and I’d love to hear your top picks from each season as well ❣️
Winter 2024
I didn’t listen to much music in the winter, but indie and alt rock were staples. There’s something about the colder months that makes these genres feel so cozy.

“Tomorrow Is Gone” - Jode
genre: Psychedelic Rock
Released in 1971, this was one of the first songs I truly fell in love with this year. Somber lyrics, hypnotic psych rock instrumentation, and a killer chorus—what’s not to love?
“Shoot You Down” - The Stone Roses
genre: Rock
My introduction to The Stone Roses came late in 2023, but by early 2024, Shoot You Down became a favorite. The restrained “I’d love to do it…” in the chorus followed by loud, lively instrumentation—chef’s kiss!
Spring 2024
Spring marked a shift toward dance and R&B. A big move in March came with stress, but music kept me from going insane lol.

“Ganadaramabasa” - Kim Jung Mi
genre: South Korean Psych Rock
A delightful 70s psych rock track from South Korea. The fuzzy, textured production is what hooked me—every drum hit and guitar note sounds raw and alive.
“LLTB (FT. Wet)” - Jam City
genre: Dance Pop
This song was the soundtrack to a super stressful move in March. Almost nothing went right with that move, but at least this song slaps 🤷🏾.
Summer 2024
Summer was when things really started to pick up! So many great projects dropped, and I was finding a ton of smaller artists too. At this point in the year, 90% of my picks were R&B with the occasional pop, dance, or indie tune sneaking in.

“maryjane” - KHYA
genre: R&B
maryjane by KHYA had me in a chokehold all summer. Her airy, confident voice flows perfectly over the hazy, dreamlike beat. KHYA was one of the highlights of 2024, and I really hope they release more great music in 2025.
“I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” - Daryl Hall & John Oates
genre: Pop
Dude, this song rocks so hard. Cool, groovy, and deeply infectious. The second sax section toward the end is probably my favorite part of the song. Shout out to the random TikTok that put me on all those months ago—I owe you my life.
Fall 2024
So far, fall has been more of the same—tons of R&B with splashes of other genres. Fall has also largely been the season of albums. After months of hunting for singles, I started diving into full projects again.

“Want 2” - Laila!
genre: R&B
From Laila!’s debut album Gap Year!, this track channels mid-2000s R&B energy with a modern flair. Her knack for catchy hooks really shines here.
“Dangomushi” - Mei Semones
genre: Indie Pop
Mei Semones has been on my radar for years, and every release feels like a gift. Dangomushi is jazzy, intricate, and undeniably catchy. If you’re not already listening to her, now’s the time to start.
Goodbye, For Now!
So there you have it! I’ll probably find some more great tracks by the end of the year (and you’ll be the first to hear about them, I’m sure). If you’re a music dork like me, I highly recommend splitting your favorites into seasons and spotting the patterns!
You can find every track I liked in 2024 here (it’s 12 hours of great music, btw)
And a condensed version is on my Infinite Loop Playlist:
Again, I’d love to hear your top picks from each season as well! This could also be a fun convo to have with friends. maybe there are listening trends that span the whole friend group 🤓🤔
Thanks again for reading, and I’ll see you on Friday ✌🏾
